IN HIS OWN WORDS
My determination comes from starting from a very humble background. I don't look back often, I usually look forward. What has kept me going is my optimism, patience, resilience, and perseverance. I am pragmatic, look at pros and cons, and make the next move based on my strength and the requirement of the situation.
Life brings in a lot of changes, so always be prepared to pivot and move on. Life doesn't stop. That's why, if needed, you need to pivot and move on.
Passion matters. Anyone has to look into themselves and see what they really want to do, can they turn their passion into their profession? Find something that is worthy of pursuit, like social welfare or contributing positively to the environment, animal welfare, and move along that direction. Not everyone has a well-set goal, but you can always find something you are interested in and ways to positively contribute to society.
Challenges include extreme negative attitude towards government leading to shrinking of the social sector and reduced funding for higher education, research, and the humanities. AI creates opportunities but also huge challenges including existential dangers, impacts on employment and labor market. AI can affect job market significantly reducing human input needed but also create new AI-related jobs and facilitate new career opportunities that did not exist before.
Integrity, equity, and social upliftment. These are the three things that drive me, both personally as well as professionally.
