About

Richard Cardoza is a wine industry entrepreneur and proprietor based in Napa, California, with a career spanning nearly four decades since entering the industry in 1987. He owns Cardoza Family Wines and is the founder of Harvest Lane Napa, established in February 2026, as well as the proprietor of TITAN Wine Company. Through his business ventures, Cardoza focuses on developing distinctive wine brands, creating premium private-label and control-label wines for distributors, retailers, and restaurant groups across the United States. His experience includes sourcing wines from California, Chile, and Italy and identifying exceptional values for consumers. Earlier in his career, he built and operated four Cardoza's Wine and Spirits stores in southern Massachusetts, where he used his businesses as gathering places for events, seminars, and festivals that brought people together while raising funds for charitable causes.
Throughout his career, Cardoza has demonstrated an entrepreneurial approach to wine production, brand development, and business operations. He previously served as Senior Vice President of Operations and Development at Juslyn Vineyards in Napa Valley's Spring Mountain District, overseeing operations and supporting the estate's commitment to producing high-quality, limited-production wines. His other ventures have included Cannavino Wines, reflecting his interest in developing innovative products and exploring emerging markets. Cardoza has also expanded his commitment to socially responsible entrepreneurship through Postcards from Tahoe, a wine brand that directs 25 percent of its proceeds to organizations such as Achieve Tahoe, Keep Tahoe Blue, the Tahoe Fund, the Pine Tree Foundation, and the Sugar Pine Foundation. In addition, he launched the Lake Tahoe Artist Series, pairing the work of local artists with wine labels to support youth arts programs and landscape preservation. These initiatives reflect his belief that successful businesses can create value while contributing to meaningful community and environmental causes.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Cardoza is dedicated to philanthropy, community engagement, and helping families and individuals facing hardship. He founded Celebration for Holiday Hope, an annual initiative that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to assist families during the holiday season, and established Community Chest to provide support throughout the year. He has also volunteered with My Friend's Place in Hollywood, helping support homeless youth through community outreach and charitable activities. Cardoza attributes his success to thinking ahead, recognizing new opportunities, and maintaining a genuine commitment to bringing people together. He encourages young professionals to challenge outdated business models, explore innovative ways to bring products to market, and build ventures that respond to evolving consumer needs. Through his continued work in the wine industry and his charitable initiatives, Cardoza combines entrepreneurial vision with a lasting commitment to community impact.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

The Q and A

  1. 01

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to curiosity, perseverance, an entrepreneurial spirit, and, above all, the relationships I've built along the way. I've never been afraid to take chances, challenge conventional thinking, or reinvent myself. But I've learned that true success isn't measured by money or accomplishments alone. It's measured by the lives we touch, the difference we make, and the joy we find along the journey.

My philosophy is simple: Be Kind and Have Fun.

  2. 02

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Trust your instincts, believe in your ideas, surround yourself with good people, and never burn bridges.

  3. 03

What advice would you give to young men entering your industry?

Don't try and do it the way it's been done because that model is broken. Find a different way to bring products to market. Go directly to big chains or bring artists into it and let them market the wine to their clients. Always be a few steps ahead.

  4. 04

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Half of the people don't drink anymore. The population is drinking RTDs like High Noon and White Claw because this generation is lazy and doesn't want to pull a cork. Cannabis is legal now so they have all these options. The wine industry never thought this was going to happen so we didn't come up with the next pull to bring that generation in.

  5. 05

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Be nice to people and enjoy the ride. We're all here for two things: to be nice and enjoy the ride. There's this thing called the Golden Rule, right? Like, be nice to people. And that's all I want. That's the only message.
