About

Michael Eubanks is a therapist, educator, performing artist, and community advocate whose multifaceted career reflects a deep commitment to serving and uplifting others. A native of Arkansas, Michael began his musical journey as a child, studying piano before taking up the tenor saxophone at age 11. After graduating from Little Rock Central High School, he served in the U.S. Army, where he also began developing his skills as a leader and educator. His experiences in the military, education, music, and community service have shaped the compassionate and people-centered perspective he brings to his professional work.
Today, Michael serves as a Mental Health Therapist at the Little Rock Vet Center, an independent clinician and therapist with Balance Counseling & Consulting, and an adjunct professor in the Master of Social Work program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. With a Master of Social Work and extensive additional education and training, he takes a client-centered, holistic approach to therapy, helping individuals recognize their autonomy, inner strengths, dignity, and capacity for growth. His work focuses particularly on veterans, law enforcement professionals, first responders, educators, clergy, therapists, musicians, and trauma survivors. He views therapy as a partnership in which he serves as a guide, helping clients better understand their experiences and discover pathways toward their personal goals.
Alongside his work in mental health and education, Michael has maintained a distinguished career as a saxophonist and vocalist since the 1990s. He has performed throughout Arkansas and beyond, appeared at major concerts and military events, released original recordings, and participated in the University of Arkansas at Little Rock jazz ensemble. His experience as a musician has complemented his work as an educator and therapist, giving him a distinctive understanding of creativity, performance, identity, and resilience. Across each area of his career, Michael remains committed to meaningful human connection, lifelong learning, and creating spaces where people can feel heard, supported, and empowered to move forward.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

The Q and A

  1. 01

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to helping others understand the impact of their choices and encouraging responsible freedom. Drawing from my military experience and knowledge of the prefrontal cortex, I taught students to make thoughtful decisions while respecting others. The positive impact I made at a school ultimately led to a recommendation for a potential career opportunity.

  2. 02

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to keep turning over rocks until you find what you’re looking for. Persistence and staying open to opportunities can lead you to the right path.

  3. 03

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is recognizing and supporting trauma among military personnel. Many service members hesitate to discuss trauma because they fear it could affect their careers. I believe there is an opportunity to better support those who come from difficult backgrounds and help veterans navigate the multiple identities and experiences they develop during and after service.
