**Leon Jones**
Leon Jones is a criminal justice instructor, author, educator, and mentor based in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He currently serves as a Criminal Justice Instructor at Meridian Technology Center, where he teaches and prepares students interested in pursuing careers in criminal justice and public safety. His approach to education is grounded in the belief that students should be encouraged to recognize their potential, build confidence, and take responsibility for the direction of their own lives.
Before entering education, Jones built an extensive career in law enforcement at Oklahoma State University. He joined the university police department as a police officer in 1994 and progressed through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, patrol captain, and ultimately Chief of Police, a position he held from 2017 to 2024. His professional experience has given him a wealth of practical knowledge that he now brings into the classroom. He has also completed undergraduate and graduate studies in criminal justice through Kaplan University, studied sociology at Oklahoma State University, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Beyond teaching, Jones is committed to leadership, mentorship, writing, and community service. As an author, he has written *The Badge That Got Heavy*, reflecting on lessons learned from a career in law enforcement and the responsibilities, challenges, and purpose that come with wearing the badge. He is also the co-founder and president of 4KidzSake.org, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children pursue their goals and dreams. Through education, service, and mentorship, Jones continues to focus on developing future leaders and strengthening the communities they will ultimately serve.

I believe the best career advice I’ve received is to have confidence in myself while remaining curious and humble—ask questions, stay open to learning, and continually strive to grow.

What advice would you give to young men entering your industry?
My advice is to have confidence in yourself, believe in what you can accomplish, and never become complacent—keep learning, continue to grow, and remain open to new ideas and opportunities.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges is the lack of people willing to get involved. Creating meaningful change requires individuals who are willing to participate, share their ideas, and take an active role rather than simply standing on the sidelines.

The values most important to me are integrity, kindness, compassion, and respect—I believe in being a good person, doing the right thing, and treating everyone with understanding and dignity.
