IN HIS OWN WORDS
The Q and A
-
01
What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my faith and to the encouragement of my wife. She has taught me that the scars we carry are not meant for us. Too often, we sit and dwell on our scars, but I have learned that my greatest challenge is to keep moving forward and to keep using my voice.
-
02
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I received was to always have a door on your office—and learn to close it and leave the workday behind you so you can be fully present for the life you’re working to build. I was also told in business to never to take things personally. Most people are not after you; they are just trying to figure out their own stuff.

03
What advice would you give to young men entering your industry?
It is tempting to go hard all the time, but you must establish balance. Work hard without burning out, make time for your family and for yourself, and always pay attention to your mental health.
-
04
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
My biggest challenge is not settling for what I have already accomplished. I must keep the fire going, keep moving, and remember that someone, somewhere, needs to hear my voice.
-
05
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family and reaching out to others are the values closest to my heart. What matters most is that the work I do every day makes a real difference, quite literally life or death, in the lives of the people I serve, along with the efforts I give to my community as a volunteer.
