“An attorney told me not to be an attorney. The only attorneys who seem to be happier are the litigation attorneys because they go to trial and there's action. That was the best advice because I was thinking about going to law school.”

IN HIS OWN WORDS

The Q and A

  1. 01

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

An attorney told me not to be an attorney. The only attorneys who seem to be happier are the litigation attorneys because they go to trial and there's action. That was the best advice because I was thinking about going to law school.

  2. 02

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Poverty is the single biggest issue as it limits school resources through property tax funding. Suburbs thrive while urban communities suffer. Need to repair infrastructure, create training for labor positions, and offer scholarships to get more men into education as role models.

  3. 03

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Empathy is huge. Being appreciative and grateful for everything, including my wife who supported me through a hit-and-run accident. I developed deep empathy and compassion from working with emotionally disturbed children in high-needs districts.
