Jason Villanueva, JD, is a higher education professional with 14 years of experience as an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor at North American University’s Gulf Language School. In addition to teaching, he contributes to curriculum strategy, instructional design, program management, compliance, and faculty development. His leadership experience includes serving in Faculty Senate, helping shape institutional policies related to curriculum, hiring, and compliance, as well as supporting cross-border institutional partnerships. He has also helped lead programs through accreditation and played a role in significant enrollment growth through data-driven curriculum redesign, learner engagement, and cross-functional collaboration. Mr. Villanueva earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law. His legal education, combined with his background in education and instructional design, gives him a distinctive perspective on organizational leadership, compliance, and student development. What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to stay true to myself and never be afraid to overcome fear by embracing challenges and believing in my ability to succeed.

What advice would you give to young men entering your industry?
My advice to young men entering education is to stay focused on your purpose of helping others and making a difference. Supporting people, especially international learners as they transition to American life, can be deeply rewarding.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is students’ legitimate fear that immigration issues could disrupt their ability to complete their studies or stay in the U.S. At the same time, there is a major opportunity as fields continue to evolve, particularly with workforce training and AI creating new pathways for students to transition from English studies to technical or business oriented fields.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are faith, serving others, and helping people develop the skills they need for everyday life and successful transitions into the workforce. I believe in paying forward the opportunities I’ve received, staying true to myself, and not allowing fear of others’ perceptions to hold me back.
