James S. Steudl serves as Operations Manager at L.M. McLamb & Son Construction, Inc., where he oversees daily field operations and coordinates company crews and subcontractors. With approximately 25 years of experience in civil construction, Steudl has built his career through hands-on experience, progressing from heavy equipment operator and foreman to field superintendent, senior sitework superintendent, and ultimately operations management. In his current role, he helps direct the work of approximately 75 to 80 employees, with a focus on keeping projects organized, productive, and safely executed.
Steudl's career in construction began after four years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he worked as an air traffic control navigational aids technician. After transitioning into civilian life, he started at the ground level as a laborer on a pipe crew and steadily developed his knowledge of civil construction and field operations. He later pursued construction management coursework at Horry-Georgetown Technical College and gained extensive experience with sitework, heavy equipment, building materials, and construction safety. This progression has given him a practical understanding of both field-level work and the leadership required to coordinate complex construction operations.
Throughout his career, Steudl has emphasized the importance of hard work, punctuality, patience, a positive attitude, and following projects through to completion. He believes in commitment, honesty, and courage and encourages young professionals entering construction to arrive early, maintain a positive mindset, and remain willing to learn. Steudl also takes an active role in developing the next generation of construction professionals, sharing his knowledge with students through partnerships with local colleges and supporting hands-on training opportunities. Outside of his professional responsibilities, he contributes to his community through volunteer work with the local nonprofit SC Needs Help.

    My advice to young men entering the industry is to come in early, maintain a positive attitude, and always be willing to learn from those around you.

    One of the biggest challenges in the industry right now is finding and retaining quality staff who are skilled, dependable, and committed to doing the job well.

    The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are commitment, honesty, and courage, which guide how I approach my responsibilities and relationships with others.
