With several years of experience in the banking industry, Scarborough has built his career through dedication, perseverance, and a strong commitment to customer service. He began as a bank teller in 2022 and steadily advanced through positions of increasing responsibility, including Senior Sales and Services Representative, Branch Manager, and Business Development Officer, before becoming a Business Banker in 2026. His professional journey reflects his determination to learn, grow, and make the most of every opportunity. Scarborough's path into banking began after studying Kinesiology and Exercise Science at Elizabeth City State University. Initially viewing banking as a stable career while pursuing his aspirations in mixed martial arts, he discovered opportunities to apply his competitive mindset and relationship-building skills in a professional setting. Early in his career, he experienced a setback when he was not selected for an initial promotion, but his manager helped him develop a plan to strengthen his skills and demonstrate his readiness for advancement. Within three months, he earned the promotion, reinforcing the value of patience, coachability, and consistent effort. Since then, Scarborough has continued to build his expertise in business development, team leadership, and customer relationship management, while remaining focused on understanding clients' needs and delivering effective solutions. Scarborough attributes his success to patience, learning from experienced colleagues, and channeling the discipline and competitive drive he developed through sports into his professional life. He believes that strong relationships are fundamental to success in banking, emphasizing the importance of personal connections and face-to-face communication rather than relying solely on digital interactions. By building trust with clients, he aims to create lasting partnerships and resolve challenges efficiently when they arise. As a member of the Free2Network group in Huntersville, North Carolina, Scarborough continues to expand his professional connections and invest in his growth. His career reflects a commitment to continuous improvement, relationship-driven service, and the belief that persistence and a willingness to learn can open doors to new opportunities.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

The Q and A

  1. 01

What do you attribute your success to?

I started at the entry-level teller position and worked my way up. My manager helped me come up with a plan after I didn't get the first promotion. I honed in on my skills, proved myself, and earned the promotion within 3 months. I kept that same work ethic and customer service level through many promotions.

  2. 02

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be patient. Too many people want to jump into everything headfirst and at the first sign of adversity look to jump ship. Taking advice from people you work around and respect is very important, and when they tell you what to do, heed that advice and apply what you can.

  3. 03

What advice would you give to young men entering your industry?

Don't be afraid to speak to people. The biggest struggle young bankers have is being able to have dialogue and conversation. Building rapport develops relationships. People want to work with people they know, like, and trust. Don't jump immediately to products or services without conversation.

  4. 04

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

With technology, people are used to doing everything online and not developing relationships with a banker. When something goes wrong, it becomes a bigger headache without a relationship. Having a personal banker who knows your business allows quicker resolution compared to calling unknown numbers at online institutions.

  5. 05

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family. I love spending time with my wife Makenzie, and our two children, a 3-year-old named Sienna and a 1-year-old named Harrison. I take pride in being a dad. I also love watching Bears and Cornhusker football, as well as being a massive cinephile.
