What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I ever received taught me how to navigate life with clarity, confidence, and intention. It began with understanding the power of decision‑making—the reminder that every choice, big or small, shapes my direction. I learned to make decisions with purpose instead of hesitation, trusting my judgment while staying aware of the consequences.
I was also taught to stand firm once I made a choice. Confidence doesn’t come from being loud; it comes from being steady. Standing firm means holding my ground when I know I’m right, not letting pressure or doubt push me off course, and showing others that my word has weight.
Another piece of advice emphasized the importance of observing. Before acting, I learned to watch, analyze, and understand the situation. Observation gives me insight—into people, patterns, and potential outcomes—so I’m not reacting blindly but responding intelligently.
Alongside observing came the reminder to listen. Listening isn’t just hearing words; it’s paying attention to meaning, tone, and intention. By listening more than I speak, I gain perspective, avoid misunderstandings, and make better decisions rooted in real understanding.
Finally, I was taught that none of this matters unless I implement what I learn. Advice only becomes valuable when it’s put into action. Implementing means applying lessons consistently—turning guidance into habits, turning insight into behavior, and turning wisdom into results.
Together, these pieces of advice shaped the way I think, act, and grow. They taught me to be deliberate, grounded, aware, receptive, and proactive—qualities that continue to guide me toward success.

What advice would you give to young men entering your industry?
The commercial trucking industry rewards men who stay disciplined, pay attention, and commit to constant growth. The first step is learning to listen—to trainers, dispatchers, safety managers, and especially seasoned drivers. Listening isn’t about ego; it’s about absorbing the knowledge that keeps you safe, efficient, and respected.
From listening comes the ability to learn. Every mile teaches you something: how your truck responds, how weather changes the road, how shippers operate, and how to manage your time. Treat each day as training. The drivers who learn quickly rise quickly.
But learning only matters when you take action. Apply what you hear. Practice your backing. Improve your trip planning. Fix bad habits early. Action is what separates drivers who stay stuck from drivers who move forward.
Above everything, prioritize safety. Safety is not optional in trucking—it’s your reputation, your job security, and your life. Slow down when conditions demand it, inspect your equipment thoroughly, and never let pressure push you into a risky decision. Safe drivers get better loads, better opportunities, and long-term careers.
Commit to continuous improvement. The industry changes, equipment changes, and expectations change. The drivers who keep sharpening their skills—communication, time management, equipment knowledge—become the ones companies rely on.
When you combine listening, learning, taking action, safety, and improvement, you create a foundation that naturally leads to advancement. Advancement in trucking isn’t luck—it’s earned. It shows up as better routes, higher pay, specialized positions, leadership roles, and long-term stability.
This industry rewards men who show discipline, humility, and drive. Build those habits early, and the road ahead becomes wide open.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The commercial trucking industry is full of potential, but it also faces several persistent challenges that affect both new and experienced drivers. One of the biggest hurdles is the lack of consistent guidance. Many drivers enter the field without strong mentorship, leaving them to learn through trial and error rather than structured support. This leads directly into the challenge of coaching, which is often inconsistent across companies. Without steady coaching, drivers struggle to refine their skills, understand expectations, and build long-term confidence.
Another major challenge is changing habits. Trucking demands discipline—safe driving habits, time management, communication, and equipment care. Many new drivers come in with habits formed outside the industry, and shifting those behaviors takes time, patience, and accountability. Companies often struggle to help drivers make these changes effectively.
Finally, the industry continues to battle high turnover. Many drivers leave within their first year due to stress, lack of support, unrealistic expectations, or difficulty adjusting to the lifestyle. High turnover strains companies, increases training costs, and disrupts fleet stability.
Despite these challenges, the industry offers powerful opportunities, especially for those who commit to growth. One of the strongest opportunities is advancement within the company. Drivers who listen, learn, improve, and demonstrate reliability often move into higher‑paying roles, specialized divisions, or leadership positions such as trainers, dispatch leads, safety coordinators, or operations supervisors. Companies value drivers who show consistency, professionalism, and a willingness to grow, and they often reward that with long-term career paths.
In short, while trucking demands discipline and resilience, it also provides clear pathways for those who invest in their development. Overcoming the challenges of guidance, coaching, habit‑building, and turnover opens the door to meaningful advancement and long-term success in the industry.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide my work and personal life come from a place of purpose, responsibility, and faith. Hard work is at the center of everything I do. I believe in earning my way, showing up with effort, and proving my commitment through action. Alongside hard work is dedication—the willingness to stay consistent, push through challenges, and follow through on what I start.
A strong safety mindset is another value I hold deeply, especially in the trucking industry. Safety isn’t just a rule; it’s a responsibility. It protects me, my coworkers, and the families who share the road. Carrying that mindset into everyday life reminds me to act with caution, awareness, and care.
My faith keeps me grounded. It shapes my decisions, strengthens my character, and reminds me to stay humble and grateful. Faith guides how I treat others and how I handle the pressures of work and life.
Family is one of my greatest priorities. My children motivate me to be better, work harder, and stay focused on what truly matters. They remind me that every effort I make builds a future not just for myself, but for them. Being present, supportive, and dependable for my family is a value I protect fiercely.
Because of them—and because of the people who look up to me—I strive to be an example. Whether at work or at home, I want my actions to reflect integrity, discipline, and respect. I want others to see consistency in how I work, how I speak, and how I carry myself.
Together, these values—hard work, dedication, safety, faith, family, children, and being an example—form the foundation of who I am. They guide my choices, shape my character, and drive me to live a life that reflects purpose and responsibility.
