About

Pedro Michael Valdez IV is a licensed mental health clinician, researcher, and consultant who owns and operates Adapt and Prevail in Orlando, Florida. Drawing on his Mexican heritage, he brings a culturally grounded lens to his clinical work, weaving considerations of identity and context into every aspect of his practice, research, and consulting. Before entering the mental health field, Pedro spent nearly a decade in law enforcement and federal investigative work, including service as a Police Cadet and Police Officer in the Lansing and East Lansing, Michigan area, followed by a role as a Special Investigator with the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency. This background continues to inform his clinical specialization in trauma and personality disorders among adults, particularly first responders, military personnel, medical professionals, and forensic populations.
Since founding his practice in 2020, Pedro has built a career centered on trauma-informed evaluation and testimony, conducting comprehensive psychological assessments and serving as an expert witness in courts throughout the Orlando area. Beyond his clinical caseload, he consults with organizations across multiple countries and with U.S. medical schools, helping institutions embed psychological principles and cultural intelligence into their practices and training. His consulting philosophy is rooted in cultural humility, an approach that prioritizes understanding local values and systems so that interventions remain relevant and sustainable across diverse settings.
Pedro is currently completing his PhD in International Psychology, concentrating his dissertation research on the experience of psychopathy and trauma assessment among mental health clinicians working within Brazilian prisons. His broader research interests extend to cult dynamics and terrorism, reflecting a sustained commitment to understanding violence, risk, and trauma from both clinical and cultural perspectives. Looking ahead, he intends to expand his work internationally, advancing trauma-informed and culturally responsive mental health care while continuing to contribute original research to the field.
