Senior Reporter, News 12 Connecticut
About
Mark Sudol has spent 40 years in the media industry, currently working as a reporter at News 12 in Fairfield, Connecticut, where he handles morning shifts and co-hosts a weekly political show. He began his journey at the University of Connecticut in 1984, initially studying engineering before discovering his passion for radio at the campus station, where he hosted sports, news, and other programs and provided play-by-play for basketball games. An internship at the CBS station in Hartford introduced him to television, leading to behind-the-scenes roles as a studio tech and sports producer. After a brief hiatus, Sudol took his first on-air position in Kirksville, Missouri, handling news, weather, and reporting, followed by similar roles in White River Junction, Vermont, and a decade as the main sports anchor in Burlington, Vermont, covering Olympic events and professional teams. He returned to Connecticut at the end of 2006 to join News 12. Sudol emphasizes building relationships and trust with sources as key to his success in storytelling. He completed Rosenblum Training last year and has been recognized with a National Award for Vermont in 1998, six New York City Emmy Awards, three Edward R. Murrow Awards, and multiple Connecticut and New York Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists awards. He previously belonged to the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association and the New York City Emmy Board. Sudol also contributes to his community through involvement with Operation Hope, Special Olympics Connecticut, and United Way of Connecticut.
