Each has played a meaningful role in helping shape the man and leader I am today.Throughout my career, I have learned that success requires a willingness to serve, learn, sacrifice, remain disciplined, and stay consistent, especially when no one is watching. Challenges and setbacks have also been important because they have strengthened my character, resilience, and wisdom.I strive to live by the 5 P’s: Priest, Protector, Promoter, Preserver, and Provider—leading spiritually, protecting those entrusted to me, promoting the growth and success of others, preserving the values and legacy passed down to me, and providing through service, leadership, and responsibility.Ultimately, I attribute my success to keeping God first, honoring the lessons of my father and mentors, staying humble, treating people with respect, and continuing to move forward with purpose.”
Edquardo Jamison is a seasoned law enforcement professional, public safety leader, and community servant with more than 25 years of dedicated service to Shelby County, Tennessee. He currently serves as a Sergeant assigned to Adam Shift Patrol with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, where he provides frontline leadership, supervision, and guidance to patrol deputies while supporting the agency’s mission of protecting and serving the citizens of Shelby County.
Throughout his career, Jamison has served in a diverse range of operational, investigative, tactical, and leadership assignments. His experience includes service as a Deputy Jailer, Patrol Deputy, Criminal Gang Investigator, Narcotics Investigator, Law Enforcement Instructor, Boat Operator, and SWAT Team Equipment Manager. These assignments have provided him with extensive experience in criminal investigations, patrol operations, tactical support, training, critical incident response, and public safety.
As an investigator, Jamison worked on significant narcotics, firearms, and gang-related investigations, developing a reputation for professionalism, persistence, and attention to detail. His dedication to law enforcement and investigative excellence earned him recognition as the 2013 Narcotic Investigator of the Year, as well as a Top Cop Award from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. Along with being honored as the 2025 Supervisor of the Year. His career reflects a continued commitment to professional development, accountability, officer preparedness, and effective law enforcement practices.
In addition to his responsibilities with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Jamison has served part-time as a Security Specialist with the Memphis Grizzlies since 2023. In this role, he assists with the protection of players, staff, guests, and organizational assets while supporting security protocols, access control, threat assessment, emergency response, and protective operations. His combined experience in law enforcement and professional sports security has strengthened his ability to assess risk, make sound decisions, and operate effectively in dynamic and high-pressure environments.
Jamison’s approach to leadership is grounded in faith, service, integrity, resilience, accountability, and purpose. He believes effective leadership extends beyond rank or position and is demonstrated through consistency, character, preparation, and a willingness to serve others. His leadership philosophy emphasizes developing people, building trust, encouraging personal and professional growth, and helping others recognize their potential even during challenging circumstances.
Education and continuous professional development have also been central to Jamison’s career. He earned his undergraduate education in Criminal Justice from Bethel University of Tennessee and has continued to expand his knowledge through specialized law enforcement, supervisory, instructional, tactical, and professional development training.
Beyond the badge, Jamison remains committed to community service, mentorship, leadership development, and strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. He believes public service carries a responsibility not only to enforce the law, but also to build relationships, develop future leaders, and leave organizations and communities stronger than they were before.

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never allow a position, title, or rank to define the kind of leader or man I am. Instead, I try to approach my career through the 5 P’s: Priest, Protector, Promoter, Preserver, and Provider.
Be a Priest by leading with faith, character, and integrity. Be a Protector by standing up for your people, your community, and what is right. Be a Promoter by developing others and helping them reach their potential. Be a Preserver by protecting the values, standards, relationships, and legacy entrusted to you. And be a Provider by using your knowledge, experience, and opportunities to create stability and open doors for your family and others.
The greatest lesson has been this: Don’t just build a career—build people, build trust, and build a legacy. Your title may be temporary, but your impact can last for generations.
My advice to young men entering law enforcement is simple: be patient and learn as much as you can. Don’t rush the process or become so focused on promotions and titles that you miss the lessons and experience that prepare you for them.
Listen to experienced officers and supervisors, seek additional training, ask questions, accept constructive criticism, and learn from both your successes and your mistakes. Every assignment and every person you encounter can teach you something that will make you better.
Most importantly, protect your integrity, remain humble, stay disciplined, and treat people with respect. Law enforcement is a career where your reputation and character follow you. Be patient with the process, committed to learning, and prepared when your opportunity comes.
The biggest challenge in law enforcement today is maintaining public trust while adapting to a rapidly changing environment. Officers are being asked to respond to increasingly complex situations involving violent crime, mental health crises, technology, social media, community expectations, and evolving laws and policies. At the same time, agencies face challenges with recruiting, retaining, training, and developing the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
But within those challenges are tremendous opportunities. We have an opportunity to strengthen community partnerships, improve technology and training, develop stronger leaders, and focus on prevention instead of simply reacting to problems. We can also do a better job of supporting officer wellness, mentoring younger officers, and building relationships with young people before their first interaction with law enforcement occurs during a crisis.
I believe the future of this profession will depend on our ability to bridge the gap between enforcement and engagement. We must remain firm in protecting our communities while also being fair, accountable, compassionate, and willing to listen.
