About
Danny Mathis approaches leadership through the responsibilities that matter most to him: his faith in Jesus Christ, his family, and the people entrusted to his care. A husband and father of two daughters, he believes success carries an obligation to serve others, honor commitments, and use experience in ways that help people grow.
Raised in a family where hard work was expected, Danny built his career through nearly three decades of practical experience across restaurants, brewing, hospitality, foodservice distribution, redistribution, and packaging. His early operating years grounded him in customer service, daily execution, and the realities facing the people responsible for getting the work done.
He later advanced through foodservice distribution into executive leadership, serving as Executive Vice President and President/General Manager at Performance Foodservice. He subsequently served as Regional Vice President of Sales, West, for Bunzl’s R3 Redistribution business, with responsibility across 13 western states. His experience encompasses sales, purchasing, pricing, supplier relationships, operations, and P&L leadership for businesses generating hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue.
Today, Danny brings that perspective to Mathis Performance Management Consulting, LLC (MPMC), where he serves as Founder, Chief Consultant, and Insights Architect. The firm supports investors, manufacturers, distributors, and operators with market intelligence, commercial diligence, procurement strategy, distribution economics, business development, and operational improvement.
MPMC organizes its work around four functions: Insight, Channels, Build, and Develop. These connect informed decisions with commercial opportunities, practical implementation, and the development of people capable of sustaining progress. Engagements can range from evaluating a market or strengthening a procurement program to building an execution playbook, coaching leaders, or integrating AI into everyday business processes.
Danny places particular emphasis on adoption. A strategy must be clear enough for people to understand, practical enough to carry out, and supported by the tools, training, and accountability needed to make it work.
Developing others remains central to his leadership. Over his career, he has mentored and helped advance more than 40 professionals into management, director, and vice president roles. He believes leaders should prepare others to assume greater responsibility and carry the work forward with confidence.
Across his professional and personal life, Danny strives to apply the same standards: faith, integrity, transparency, and commitment. Those principles shape how he serves clients, leads teams, and defines the example he wants to set for his family.

IN HIS OWN WORDS
The Q and A
-
01
What do you attribute your success to?
God’s grace, the work ethic I grew up around, and the people who invested in me. I came from a family where everyone worked hard, and that shaped my respect for both the work and the people doing it. Curiosity helped me keep learning, and mentors helped me recognize opportunities I might otherwise have missed. My responsibilities as a husband and father give success its proper context. Professionally, some of my most meaningful accomplishments have been helping others recognize their potential and preparing them for responsibilities they once thought were beyond their reach.

02
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Stay curious. The amazing mentors i have had in my life reinforced the importance of looking beyond the obvious and understanding the details others might overlook. That has stayed with me throughout my career. Ask why a process exists, how a decision affects the next person, and what the numbers actually represent. Then spend time with the people doing the work. Their perspective often explains what a report cannot.

03
What advice would you give to young men entering your industry?
Learn the work. Respect the people doing it. Volunteer for responsibilities that stretch you, and recognize that a lateral move can build the experience your next opportunity requires. Be dependable before expecting greater authority, and remain teachable when it comes. Develop someone who can take your place. Above all, decide what you stand for early. Your faith, family, and integrity deserve deliberate attention as your career grows.

04
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities I see is helping businesses turn information and technology into better everyday decisions. AI is part of that, but the work starts with understanding the business problem, simplifying the process, and preparing the team to adopt the change. That applies to forecasting, purchasing, pricing, sales, and operations. Through MPMC, I help clients connect those pieces so the improvement can be understood, implemented, and measured. The leadership challenge is giving people enough clarity, training, and ownership to sustain it.

05
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of how I want to live. Following Him is a daily decision that should shape how I treat my family, lead people, serve clients, and honor my commitments. Integrity, transparency, humility, and accountability follow from that. I want people to know where I stand, trust what I say, and see consistency in what I do. I do not get everything right, but I am responsible for owning my mistakes and continuing to grow. The example I set for my wife and daughters matters deeply to me.
