FOUNDER TO THE PROFILE

Andre (Dre) Warren

Human Geography Analyst, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency

“My faith keeps me grounded. I was raised by a single mother, just my older sister and I. Having to navigate life without a male example to look up to was a challenge, and at times still is. My faith has truly kept me grounded through this journey. I had to learn how to be confident in myself, believe the God created me for the exact journey I'm on, and just take one step, and then another, and keep taking one more step. Embrace the journey, the good and bad parts, not necessarily looking at the end result, but just embrace exactly where you are in the moment, and step again. You will reach your destination.”

IN HIS OWN WORDS

The Q and A

  1. 01

What do you attribute your success to?

My faith keeps me grounded. You will reach your destination.

  2. 02

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You have to be flexible, to be adaptable. Times change. People change. Know your worth, know what your strengths are, know what your weaknesses are. Build on your strengths, better your weaknesses. Stay flexible. And don't be afraid to go for it. Just go for it!

  3. 03

What advice would you give to young men entering your industry?

In my industry, patience is key to long term success. It's not a career you move quickly through. Be open to learning but be patient in the process.

  4. 04

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The hardest part of the job is it's vast. There's many different ways to do it. Finding your own method can be difficult and will take time, particularly early. I'm working with a lot of people who have been in this tradecraft a lot longer than me, this being my second career. The hardest part has been finding my own methods and how to best perform the duties of the job effectively, knowing that those around you are much more advanced, educated and skilled.

  5. 05

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Faith and family. Professionally, I try to leave or to impact in a way that always makes wherever I am better than it was when I got there. That's through not only the actual production of the job, operation of the job, but through the relationships built while performing those duties. Those values carry throughout whatever environment I've been in, military, civilian, deployed locations, foreign countries, or close to home.
